NRDC Tower
A 43-story tower in lower Manhattan commissioned by NRDC, an environmental non-profit, to be their world headquarters.
A braced steel frame allows for column-free space in a small floor plate. The external truss pattern has been regularized to reflect the fractal nature of living things then organized in architectural reference to the historical New York skyline - English parliamentary gothic, art deco and modern. The pattern grows more complex nearer the peak as a brace against increasing wind loads.
